Almost all diamonds have some imperfections. The diamonds with few to no imperfections will receive the highest clarity grades. The cut of a diamond determines its brilliance or sparkle. The better the cut, the better the sparkle. The carat weight is the measure of the weight of the diamond. Diamonds that are white or have no color receive the higher quality grades than those with visible color.

How To Choose

The 4C’s enables you to choose the perfect diamond that will give the most “WOW” factor within your budget.  A well-cut diamond may cost more, however, it will give that glimmer and sparkle you may desire. The diamond’s shape can give the illusion of size, allowing for cost savings. For example, a diamond with a larger “table” or surface area will give the appearance of a larger diamond.

The difference in quality grades for a diamond’s color can also be slight and hard to see with the naked eye. You can choose a dazzling diamond, with a slightly lower quality grade and still get the look you desire, all within your budget.

The clarity of the diamond focuses on blemishes or internal “inclusions”. These blemishes or inclusions can affect the dazzle and sparkle of a diamond by blocking light.  The larger the diamond the more these blemishes or inclusions will show.

You may also consider your fiancé’s lifestyle and personal preferences when choosing a diamond engagement ring. If she works in an environment where status is important, she may want a larger diamond with high clarity. If she works with her hands, you may choose a smaller well-cut diamond that will decrease the likelihood of her losing or damaging her diamond engagement ring.
